Dee Z. Lewis is an artist and K-12 art educator based out of Raleigh, NC. She was born in Cleveland, OH but moved to Wake Forest, NC when she was 7 and has lived in North Carolina ever since. She received her K-12 Art Education degree from Appalachian State in 2009 and was awarded the 2009 purchase award where one of her artworks was added to App State's permanent art collection. She began teaching High School art in Raleigh in 2010, taught middle school for 12 years and is now teaching at the Montessori School of Raleigh. In 2015 she was awarded Teacher of the Year for Wakefield Middle. She currently teaches 1st through 12th grade and loves every minute of instilling creativity in her students. She lives at home with her husband, Nick, 3 year old son, Lennon and their dog Nama. She loves hiking, being outdoors, painting, and all different kinds of music. Her husband is a Chef at the Raleigh Convention Center and is in an inspiration to her through the bright colors and fresh fruits and vegetables he incorporates into his dishes. He is also an artist at heart and makes artwork through his beautiful plate arrangements.
Dee works out of her home studio using many different materials and has a hard time focusing on just one theme. She is inspired by the world around her, painting and drawing nature, people, and abstracts. Her artwork incorporates bright, vivid color that invokes a sense of happiness. Artists Georgia O'Keefe is a huge inspiration to her and her work, along with the landscape that O'Keefe lived in New Mexico. Teaching art has allowed Dee to stay abreast of the many different art forms and styles, which also influences her art and inspires her everyday.
Thank you for taking the time to check out her work and please reach out with any questions or comments.
